Carmel J. Barrau, M.D. - Internist, Miami FL
Clinical Rotation Attending (Family Medicine),
I was first impressed with William's general medical knowledge. When I would inquire as to the pathophysiology of a certain condition he would readily offer his understanding of not only the condition, but further tests that could confirm a diagnosis and also treatments that would aid the patient. William had a solid pharmacology foundation and was able identify conditions the patient was being treated for by looking at the medications that they had brought with them. When shone test results William was able to engage me in a beneficial discussion on the results and what next steps in management would be most appropriate.
The next thing that struck me was William’s thorough and pointed physical exams. He was able to perform the exams that were asked of him efficiently and exhibited great skill in doing so. He reported the clinical findings using appropriate medical vocabulary. His bedside manner was excellent also. Prior to examining he would explain to the patient in plain words what he was going to do and then after he was finished performing the exam he would explain further about what the results meant. William even took it upon himself to learn some Creole so that he could better interact with the large Haitian population that we serve.
William exhibited a great insight into what lab tests and imaging would aid in either confirming a new diagnosis or monitoring a chronic one. For example, a patient had come in on a routine visit. William performed a careful physical exam and noticed some supraclavicular swelling, he then engaged the attending physician on what imaging should be performed. William offered that perhaps a MRI of the neck and chest would be in order to rule out any Lymphoma or other malignancies. I was very impressed with this occasion as it demonstrated William’s true quality as a future physician.
Not only would William show up to work on time or early but he would also offer to stay longer if there were more opportunities for patient interaction. He also had a very novel ability and desire to bring his peers into conversation and utilize their knowledge while speaking with me or the patient. I attribute a lot of this young man’s maturity and stature to the fact that he is a husband and a father of three young children. He seems to have found a harmony with all his responsibilities from school, family, and other areas of his life. This harmony displays itself in William’s positive and energetic attitude toward people and circumstances.
I have no reservations in recommending William into any residency training program and feel that he would be an excellent asset to your medical staff.
Richard C. Davi, M.D., F.A.C.S. - Urologist, Miami FL
Clinical Rotation Attending (Urology)
I had the pleasure of spending a few weeks with Paul as he completed my clinical rotation in urology. I was immediately impressed by Paul’s pleasant and happy demeanor. He was able to converse with me and other medical staff easily and seemed to find an excellent blend of appropriate professional inquiry mixed with humor. He was always punctual, arriving before the necessary time and prepared for the tasks that were to be performed. He was always inquisitive about the procedures, the conditions, and the medical knowledge behind them.
Paul is quick to respond to questions and not afraid to say, that he doesn’t know an answer. He would always research the answers and follow up with me the next day. Overall I was very impressed with Paul Berg. I would highly recommend him to any clinical teaching site or residency program as he would be a great addition to any team.
Keith Kendall -Mechanical Engineer
Boy Scout Colleague
Paul has the wonderful ability to casually make people feel at ease when around him with a lighthearted easy manner. As I got to know him I found that he is a thorough planner, who quietly planed and made things happen. I got to know him through his church activity serving as a scoutmaster. He planned and executed the scouting activities helping the boys to advance in rank, and involving them in service projects. A picture that he took on one of those scout outings years ago is so delightful that it has remained the background picture on my handheld because of the spontaneous energy it exhibits. He setup a nonprofit organization which I understood provided bicycles to children who could not afford them. I recommend Paul as someone who not only makes people feel at ease, but accomplishes things with an energy that is hidden from casual view.

Bruce Hunt - Vice President, Brighton Bank
Milwaukee Wisconsin Mission President
This is a letter of recommendation for Mr. Paul Berg. I became acquainted with Paul who served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Wisconsin Milwaukee Mission from February 2003 to February 2005. I knew him for the final 7 months of his mission when I presided over the mission from July 2004 to July 2007 as mission president having taken a three-year leave of absence from my occupation. I have since returned to Utah where I am once again employed by Brighton Bank as Executive Vice President. During the time I served in Wisconsin, I supervised approximately 403 young missionaries of which Paul was one. Paul was called to teach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to present the wonderful message of the restoration of the Savior’s Church to the people of Wisconsin. That calling included dedicating 24 months of his life to serve without remuneration to share the gospel message; leave family, friends and personal possessions behind; attend to a rigorous daily schedule that included arising and retiring at specific times; study; plan; set goals; work with local church leaders; formulate plans and schedules for furthering missionary work; and proselyte in all kinds of weather including cold, heat, snow, rain and sleet.
I would like to personally recommend Paul Berg to you. When I supervised him as a missionary, he was very loyal and dedicated in his missionary service and exhibited a strong commitment to his duties. He showed intelligence, industry and compassion as he adhered to a rigorous proselyting schedule. During his tenure as a missionary, he worked in several areas throughout Wisconsin with local church leaders to formulate plans and goals while supervising others in missionary work. He served as zone leader during the latter part of his mission. As a zone leader he developed strong leadership skills as he instructed, encouraged, mentored, taught, guided, counseled and supervised upwards of 16 to 20 missionaries. He showed integrity, love and respect of others as he demonstrated strong leadership through example, decision making and action. He possesses the attribute of self-motivation and was one of my best missionaries.
I know Paul will always put forth his best effort in everything he does. He will handle himself with maturity and dignity in any situation he faces and will be responsible and loyal. He is an outstanding young man and an industrious worker. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions regarding Paul Berg.
